Cheval is a golf community in the unincorporated Lutz area of Hillsborough County, about 17 miles north of downtown Tampa and about 12 miles north of Tampa International Airport. It lies between North Dale Mabry Highway on the east and the Suncoast Parkway on the west, with the Pasco County line to the north. It takes its name from the large gated Cheval subdivision and is built around two 18-hole courses: the private Club at Cheval and TPC Tampa Bay, a daily-fee course.

The Census-defined Cheval area covers about 6 square miles of land. It is made up of several subdivisions, the largest being the gated Cheval community. Golf at the Club at Cheval and TPC Tampa Bay
The Club at Cheval is a private club whose 18-hole course was designed by Steve Smyers. Heritage Golf Group bought the club in 2025 and began a multimillion-dollar renovation of the greens, bunkers and tee boxes. For members, the club has nine lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, pickleball, a pool with lap swimming, a fitness center with group classes, and indoor golf simulators.
TPC Tampa Bay, at 5300 West Lutz Lake Fern Road, is a public, daily-fee course. It was designed by Bobby Weed in consultation with tour professional Chi Chi Rodriguez, opened in 1991 and plays to par 71. It is part of the Tournament Players Club network and has hosted a PGA Tour Champions event.
Parks and trails near Cheval
Lake Park, a county park on North Dale Mabry Highway about 2 miles south of the Club at Cheval, has five lakes, an archery range, two horse arenas, a BMX track and marked wooded trails for hiking, running, mountain biking and riding. Brooker Creek Headwaters Nature Preserve, about 2.5 miles southwest of TPC Tampa Bay, has a 4.3-mile hiking trail across 1,121 acres. The Upper Tampa Bay Trail's Lutz-Lake Fern Road trailhead, about 2 miles west, connects to the Suncoast Trail.
