Zephyrhills is a city in east Pasco County, about 30 miles northeast of downtown Tampa on US 301. It was settled in 1888 as Abbott, renamed Zephyrhills in 1910 and incorporated in 1914. Named for its rolling terrain, it is the home of Zephyrhills bottled water and has a National Register historic downtown and a World War II-era airport that is one of the country's busiest skydiving centers. Living in Zephyrhills
The Zephyrhills Downtown Historic District covers 84 acres and 126 contributing buildings between South Avenue, 9th Avenue, 7th Street and 11th Street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, and it mixes homes and storefronts from a town laid out beginning in 1910. City Hall, built in 1940 as a Works Progress Administration project, is an Art Deco building with a Mission-style parapet. US 301 (Gall Boulevard) is the main commercial road, and Fifth Avenue (State Road 54) runs east to west through downtown.
Parks, springs and things to do in Zephyrhills
Zephyr Park, at 38116 Fifth Avenue, is a 34-acre city park shaded by very old oak trees. It has the Alice Hall Community Center, five lighted tennis courts, handball courts, fishing, picnic pavilions, a playground, and a lakeside fitness path of about five-eighths of a mile.
Zephyrhills Municipal Airport opened in 1942 as an Army Air Forces training field and was deeded to the city in 1947. Today it is home to Skydive City, a drop zone founded in 1990 that hosts more than 70,000 jumps a year, and to the Zephyrhills Museum of Military History.
Crystal Springs Preserve is a 530-acre preserve around a second-magnitude spring in the Hillsborough River springshed, open for educational visits by reservation. About 10 miles south on US 301, Hillsborough River State Park has Class II rapids, canoe, kayak and bicycle rentals, campgrounds, more than 7 miles of trails, and a replica of 1836 Fort Foster.
Getting around Zephyrhills
US 301 runs north to Dade City and south toward Tampa. State Road 54 heads west to Wesley Chapel. State Road 56 was extended east to US 301 in 2019 as a six-lane road with a 10-foot multi-use trail, giving Zephyrhills a direct route to I-75, about 10 miles west. State Road 39 also serves the city.

Homes range from older houses in and around the historic downtown to rural acreage in east Pasco County and new master-planned neighborhoods near State Road 56. The largest of those is Two Rivers, off State Road 56 between Morris Bridge Road and US 301. It has homes from several builders, a social club called The Landing with a pool, a fitness center and a restaurant, and more than 10 miles of trails.
