Citrus Park is an unincorporated community in northwest Hillsborough County, about 15 miles northwest of downtown Tampa and about 7 miles north of Tampa International Airport, split north to south by the Veterans Expressway. It is home to Citrus Park Town Center, the area's regional mall, and to a stretch of the paved Upper Tampa Bay Trail. It borders Westchase to the west, Carrollwood to the east, Keystone to the north and Town 'n' Country to the south.
Living in Citrus Park
The North Tampa Land Company platted Citrus Park in 1913 along the Tampa & Gulf Coast Railroad, in a district of citrus groves and cattle farms. Today the Census-defined area covers about 10 square miles of land, with suburban neighborhoods on both sides of the Veterans Expressway. Its boundary includes Carrollwood Meadows, which also appears on the Carrollwood page because it carries that name.
Shopping in Citrus Park
Citrus Park Town Center opened on March 3, 1999, and is now owned and managed by Hull Property Group. Its anchors are Dillard's, JCPenney, Macy's and Dick's Sporting Goods, plus Elev8 Fun, an entertainment center that opened in the former Sears space in 2023. NCG Cinemas took over the mall's movie theater in 2024. West Park Village in Westchase, with restaurants and a market, is a short drive west.
Parks and trails in Citrus Park
The Upper Tampa Bay Trail, a paved path on a former railroad corridor beside the Veterans Expressway, runs north through Citrus Park. Hillsborough County lists trailheads inside the area at 10338 Wilsky Boulevard and near 7604 Ehrlich Road, and at Peterson Road Park (8203 Peterson Road) on the area's northern edge. North of there the trail continues to the Lutz-Lake Fern Road trailhead, where it connects to the Suncoast Trail. Carrollwood Village Park, with a skate park, dog parks and a splash pad, is about 3 miles east of the mall.
Getting around and homes in Citrus Park
The Veterans Expressway runs north to south through the middle of the area, and Gunn Highway and Ehrlich Road are the main local routes. Homes include single-family subdivisions, townhomes and condominiums. Many condo and townhome complexes that use the Citrus Park name are in Westchase, outside this boundary, so check a listing's location on the map.
