Westchase is an unincorporated area in northwest Hillsborough County, about 15 miles northwest of downtown Tampa and about 11 miles from Tampa International Airport, reached by Linebaugh Avenue's exit on the Veterans Expressway and by Sheldon Road. At its core is the Westchase master-planned community, approved by the county in 1991, with a daily-fee golf course, two community swim and tennis centers and the West Park Village town center. This page covers the Census-defined Westchase area, which is larger than the community association's master plan and reaches west to Tampa Bay Downs.
Living in Westchase
Hillsborough County commissioners approved the Westchase plan on April 15, 1991, and construction began that September. The Westchase Community Association's master plan covers more than 2,000 acres, with about 3,500 homes and hundreds of acres of preserved land. It is a deed-restricted community: buyers agree to its covenants, conditions and restrictions, bylaws and residential guidelines. Tampa Bay Downs, a horse racetrack, sits on the western edge of the Census area.
Golf, parks and things to do in Westchase
Westchase Golf Club, at 11602 Westchase Golf Drive, is a daily-fee course open to the public: 18 holes, par 72 and 6,699 yards, designed by Lloyd Clifton and opened in 1992. It covers 213 acres and winds through natural wetlands, over wooden bridges and past bulkheads. Its signature third hole is a par 3 over water. The community association runs two swim and tennis centers, with lap lanes and lighted tennis and pickleball courts, plus two parks. Upper Tampa Bay Conservation Park is about 3 miles southwest of the golf club: 596 acres with a boardwalk, a nature center and canoe and kayak rentals.
West Park Village and shopping near Westchase
West Park Village is a neo-traditional neighborhood inside Westchase with front porches and village greens, and a town center with shops, restaurants, a market and a splash park. Citrus Park Town Center, anchored by Dillard's, JCPenney and Macy's, is about 3 miles east of the golf club.
Homes in Westchase
Homes in the master plan date from 1991 onward. They include single-family houses, townhomes and condominiums, plus West Park Village's porch-front houses, with golf course and preserve frontage in some neighborhoods. All homes in the master plan fall under the association's deed restrictions. Several condo and townhome complexes here use the Citrus Park name even though they are in Westchase. Properties in the outer parts of the Census area may not belong to the association, so check each listing.
