Seminole is a southwestern Pinellas County area made up of the City of Seminole, incorporated in 1970, and the surrounding unincorporated area that shares its mailing address. It is set between Lake Seminole and Boca Ciega Bay, with Largo to the north, Pinellas Park to the east, St. Petersburg to the south, and Madeira Beach and the Gulf beaches just to the west. Its main roads are Seminole Boulevard (Alternate US 19) and Park Boulevard, and downtown St. Petersburg is about 12 miles away by road.
Lakes, bay and parks in Seminole
Lake Seminole Park, at 10015 Park Boulevard North, is a 258-acre county wildlife habitat and sanctuary on 684-acre Lake Seminole. A recently extended paved path now makes a loop of about 3 miles. The park also has a boat ramp, 13 picnic shelters and fishing, though swimming is not allowed. To the southwest, Boca Ciega Millennium Park (12410 74th Avenue North) covers 186 acres on Boca Ciega Bay. Its boardwalks run through mangroves to a 35-foot observation tower, and it adds a quarter-mile nature trail, a 1.5-acre dog park and seven picnic shelters. The Pinellas Trail runs through town past Seminole City Park and its large pond. Just north, on the Largo side of the line, Walsingham Park adds a 100-acre lake and a 6-mile trail.
Shopping and dining in Seminole
Seminole City Center, at Park Boulevard and 113th Street, is a 37-acre open-air shopping center on the site of the former Seminole Mall. The mall was demolished starting in 2015, and the center opened in 2016. It functions as the area's downtown, with a grocery store (The Fresh Market), restaurants, fitness and personal care businesses, and home and apparel retailers in one walkable layout.
Getting to the beaches from Seminole
Park Boulevard heads west from Seminole over the Park Boulevard Bridge across The Narrows, part of the Intracoastal Waterway, and ends at Gulf Boulevard in Indian Shores, about 4 miles from Seminole City Center. Madeira Beach is a similar distance to the southwest. Heading east, Park Boulevard (State Road 694) becomes Gandy Boulevard and reaches Interstate 275, the main route to Tampa. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is about 10 miles away by road.
